This is the story of a man who built one of the craziest cities in the world,Dubai. But not many people know that just 60 years ago ,this city was an empty desert,and it didn't have a single skyscraper

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Muḥammad bin Rāshid ʾĀl Maktūm; born 15 July 1949) is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

What’s even more impressive about the meteoric growth of Dubai is the role that one man played in developing the ideas, strategies and teams that fuelled it. I greatly admire Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister and constitutional monarch of Dubai, and reading his book My Vision: Challenges in the Race for Excellence reminded me exactly what I love about his style of leadership

Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, once summed up his ambitions for the city in a simple sentence: “We want to be No. 1.”

In recent decades, Dubai has sought to transform itself from a regional trading post and minor oil producer into a global investment and tourism hub—and a haven in a part of the world often associated with geopolitical conflict

For thousands of years, Dubai’s trade relationship with neighboring countries provided a steady income for the village. Situated on the Arabian Gulf, Dubai functioned as a port for trading and relied heavily on its fishing and pearl diving. However, when Japan invented artificial pearls in the 1950s, the economy took a harsh downturn. Luck was on their side though and in 1966 everything was about to change for the local fishing village...
