Places Where You Should Never Go Swimming

1. Russia's Karachay Lake

Karachay translates to "Black Water" in the local dialect. Lake Karachay is regarded as the most contaminated location on the planet. The Mayak Production Association, one of Russia's largest nuclear plants, is located near this once-beautiful lake in central Russia. The lake has been used by the Soviets to dump radioactive waste from Mayak since 1951. Despite its small size, the lake has become lethal as a result of years of excessive radioactive waste. In the 1990s, scientists determined that standing on the lake's beaches for just one hour would expose a person to enough radiation to kill them.

The lake was deemed the most contaminated location on the globe from a radiological standpoint, and it has been closed to the public for the past 45 years. Karachay and the surrounding surroundings are equally barren, with almost no fauna of any sort to be found. The poisonous lake not only damaged the environment, air, and water, but it also harmed the health of those who used to reside in the vicinity. Cancer cases rose by 21%, birth abnormalities by 25%, and leukemia cases climbed by 41%. (source: business insider).

2. River Citarum in Indonesia

Considering a cool swim on Indonesia's longest river? Reconsider your position. Java is a tropical paradise that entices travelers who want to see its stunning landscapes. Citarum's dangerous waters, on the other hand, could not be in worse shape. This river is regarded as the world's most filthy. This isn't the place to work on your technique. Every day, 20,000 tons of garbage and 340,000 tons of waste water are thrown directly into the river, with 2,000 industrial facilities responsible for wreaking havoc on the ecosystem.

Citarum is very poisonous and lethal, with high levels of mercury, lead, and arsenic in its waters, posing serious health risks to humans. Because of the garbage and dead animals floating on the surface, there are certain spots where you can't even see the water. The world's filthiest river is a sad sight to see, and one that should be avoided at all times.

3. Dominica's Boiling Lake

The image of Dominica's Boiling Lake is awe-inspiring. The curious battle to stay a safe distance as hot waters bubble and vapours linger in the air. Take our advise and avoid getting too near. If you lose your footing here, it may be fatal. The Boiling Lake is a flooded fumarole, a hole in the Earth's crust that releases steam and fumes from the molten lava below. It is located in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, not far from Roseau. Inhaling the fumes may be harmful, and getting into the water is a no-no. This is not the place to swim.

The water does chill from time to time, but don't be misled. The temperature may quickly increase here, and the grey-blue waters have been known to reach close to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, so going for a swim could be dangerous.
