They only received airline blankets, upon request, after 5 days. They have to pay to use a shower and have to purchase their own food – a strange time for airports to be profiting off of others misfortune.
The flight cancellation subsequently led to Allan missing the deadline to return home before the lockdown, leaving him locked out of South Africa.
Allan was traveling abroad for the first time in his life after submitting his masters thesis. He together with another South African citizen remain under security at Kuala Lumpur airport.
They are not able to leave the airport or fly home as the airport in South Africa is closed.
Allan and other travelers from around the world have been left to fend for themselves, sleeping on benches since their flights were cancelled a week ago.
The Huysamen family is hoping that the South African Government will repatriate Allan and all other citizens around the world. In the meantime, they would like to see Allan and others like him being provided with a safe place to sleep and some basic necessities to allow them to stay safe and stay healthy while they wait to go home.
