Due to the inaccessibility of departmental systems, including MojaPay, child maintenance payments would be delayed, according to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
MojaPay is used by the department to manage maintenance fees. The department revealed last week that its Information Technology system had been disrupted owing to a ransomware attack, resulting in a payment delay.
While the department's spokesperson Steve Mahlangu could not provide an exact date for when the required systems will be restored, he said in a statement on Monday that the department will "... ensure that all child maintenance money is kept secure for payment to the rightful beneficiaries when the systems are back online."
The existing system issues have no bearing on the receiving of child maintenance funds from the paying parent or on employers who deduct these funds from the paying parent's salary.
"The child maintenance deductions will be made on a monthly basis as planned." IT professionals from the Department, industry partners, and selected state organs are collaborating to restore the ransomware-affected systems, including MojaPay, as quickly as possible.
"The MojaPay system will be given top consideration in order to minimize any inconvenience to maintenance beneficiaries." The department's crisis response plan has so far been better coordinated thanks to the IT specialists' creation of an alternative email system."
Staff workers at various levels had been transferred to the new email solution, according to Mahlangu.
