South Africa is still behind in comparison to other countries when it comes to digital migration. The government has been trying in earnest to move the country out of the stone age in to the fourth industrial revolution.
Unfortunately Etv has always been opposed to this move. The broadcaster has been taking the government to court on numerous occasions.
The Constitutional Court has ruled in favour of Etv declaring the 31st October as a switch date unlawful and unconstitutional.
This will add another delay to the switch off and the allocation of much needed spectrum. The private sector in South Africa continue to hold the state to ransom.
Our courts are also used to derail plans of the government by those with deep pockets. First it was Multichoice that caused delays with encryptions.
Now it is Etv with the switch of date. Both companies claim to be fighting for the poor while they do not even watch analogue television themselves.
