[OPINION] Carrick Is Bitter About Rangnick's Appointment

Ralf Rangnick plans to hire up to three backroom personnel and attempted to persuade Michael Carrick to stay at Manchester United. Prior to Rangnick's appointment as interim manager, Carrick was in charge of three games, managing 2-0 and 3-2 victories against Villarreal and Arsenal, as well as a 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Before Carrick elected to go on his own, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the only member of the coaching staff to be fired outright. Supporters are putting pressure on assistant manager Mike Phelan to resign, and Rangnick made no indication that he had talked with Phelan. On Wednesday, Rangnick met with Carrick and Kieran McKenna, and Carrick informed him that he would not be staying on. According to Rangnick, Brexit laws make it impossible for United to immediately hire backroom personnel.

"I found out about Michael's leaving two days ago," Rangnick stated of Carrick's departure. "I met with Michael and Kieran (McKenna), but it was with Michael that I had a long private talk for more than an hour two days ago. I tried to persuade him to stay on board, but he had clearly decided weeks before that after thirty years in professional football, he wanted a break and a rest. "In the end, I had no choice but to accept it. In some ways, I understand his decision. In terms of the coaching staff, I'm more than willing to work with the present group since I require their knowledge and skills in regards to the current team.

Michael Carrick coy on Ralf Rangnick appointment

"I'll undoubtedly attempt to locate one, two, or perhaps three individuals who can join us in the next one or two weeks, but it won't be simple owing to Brexit laws. "Many of my previous colleagues, whether video analysts or assistant coaches, have long-term commitments with large clubs and are thus unavailable at this time, so we'll have to be a little more creative in finding the proper personnel.
