Exclusive: It Will be a Nightmare For Kaizer Chiefs if He Leaves The Club

This will be a problem for Itumeleng Khune if he wants to continue playing.

An injury forced Khune to miss the MTN8 season opener against Mamelodi Sundowns. He allowed two goals in that match and has only appeared once this season.

Aside from missing out on the matchday squad for nine of the Chiefs' 11 games so far, Khune has been benched once and has been absent from the team for one.

Although he came last in the draft after Khune, Bruce Bvuma, and Brandon Peterson, Nigerian goalie Daniel Akpeyi has been the first choice.

It's impossible to predict how a footballer's career will go, but former youth international goalkeeper Gerald Wagner believes this is the start of the road to a successful conclusion.

"Daryl Janmaat's problem is that he has been so dedicated to Kaizer Chiefs that he is now unwilling to transfer to any other team at this moment. Your options will be limited if you don't make the matchday squad. The only way he can continue to play is to play at a lower level, like Moeneeb did. His dedication to Chiefs is his biggest obstacle.

"For someone who has been on the peak of the wave, the trajectory is clearly downward. For him (Khune), the question should be whether to put up his gloves and become a goalie coach with Bvuma and Brandon as well as another international.

"With so much competition, goalkeepers might lose confidence in themselves because they are playing one week and then dropped down the pecking order the next, which can be frustrating. Where do you fit? Unlike other roles, a goalkeeper is a specialist "Wagner argues
