Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker made a move back home as he secured a deal with one of the local clubs.
The transfer window has been really generous to former Mamelodi Sundowns star striker Mauricio Affonso as he managed to secure a spot before being left without a new home for the year. The transfer window in South Africa is closing in the end of August and the transfer window in Uruguay is also coming to a conclusion as it's nearing the end.
Mauricio Affonso who is an Uruguayan player after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns moved back home and said goodbye to South Africa and the Premier Soccer League as he join one of the local clubs to be back in his home country for work and stay. It has come to light as revelations suggests that the player penned down a deal with multiple trophy winning side River Plate.
The details to the deal is still undisclosed but it is confirmed that he is now officially a River Plate compatriot player. Affonso who didn't impress as much as Mamelodi Sundowns expected him to, now gets a new lease on life and a fresh chance to show his expertise in front of goal as it's evident to what we as South Africans have witnessed, the player has the potential to be deadly in front of goal.
As one player made a move from abroad to join Mamelodi Sundowns (Pavol Šafranko), another foreign player (Mauricio Affonso) said his goodbyes to play in his country. Affonso is with arguably with one of the best Uruguayan clubs and with this new fresh start can either further develop himself in his striker role or see his career as a footballer go down the drain.
Mauricio Affonso must be proud to be back home, as home is clearly where the heart is. But he must be missing South Africa and the PSL as we know how interesting our football can be. But since he joined a new club at home, may he make the best of his stay.
