In the PSL era a number of well known stars tend to venture into coaching or punditry after their playing days if they decide against a quieter retirement playing golf.
As of late we have since noticed that the odds of these professionals to venture into politics are astronomical. From what we have learned is that we currently have a top PSL footballer and a head coach who are from political affiliated families.
Below we profile the two known figures in South African football who are from political affiliated families.
1. Grant Kekana
Grant Kekana and retired footballer turned club executive Kaizer Motaung Jr's life stories are slightly more similar. Growing up they both had a comfortable upbringing as they hail from successful families. According to sources we have since had the privilege to learn that the Mamelodi Sundowns star player is from a political affiliated family as his mother Pinky Kekana is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) where she serves as a Minister in the Presidency.
Pinky Kekana's rise to politics dates back to 1999 when she was appointed as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature and during that time her son was only 7 years old. Before her rise to political prominence the 55 year old Minister worked as a school teacher.
Currently having the time of his life as a senior coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, the Free State born mentor is from a well to do family which is political affiliated. According to sources we have since went to learn that his brother Butana Komphela is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
Butana's political career dates back to May 2009 when he was appointed as a member of parliament. Throughout out his political career he has also served as the MEC of public works and rural development in the Free State province.
