Done Deal: Former Pirates coach spotted in Egypt

Most South African coaches, footballer and backroom staff seems like they’re spreading their wings and moving abroad to share their football knowledge with different teams. This time around they’re flocking towards Egypt as it is one of the best footballing nations in Africa. There are always opportunities elsewhere if things don’t work out within Mzansi. This is something that the football fraternity has to accept and welcome with both hands.

Now, it has been reported that the Orlando Pirates coach and analyst Michael Loftman has joined the Egyptian national team coaching staff that is led by the Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz. This follows after the departure of Hossam El-Badry who was in charge of the Pharaohs for almost two years. This has given Egypt to appoint Queiroz a chance to showcase his coaching abilities within the team and also, he has a list of personnel that he wants by his side on this massive task of reviving the Pharaohs. It is believed that Loftman recommended the former Bidvest Wits head coach Roger De Sa to become Queiroz's assistant coach. Several Egyptian household names are expected to join the technical team namely Mohamed Shawky, Wael Gomaa, Diaa El-Sayed, and Essam El-Hadary. Within the names that have been thrown in is the former Zamalek SC coach Mohamed Salah, who’s expected to help out the Portuguese manager.

Loftman last coached in the Belgian Second Division as he was part of Lommel SK. However, he has been Pirates' first team performance analyst and even coached their reserve team. Over the past couple of years, he has shown his work even overseas at the academy level in England with Watford and Tottenham Hotspur. Not only that but the 31-year-old talented tactician moved to coach Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos. However, now he has shifted all his focus to provide all the assistance he can towards Egypt.
