Chiefs star has been sent back home

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has been faced with numerous challenges within the club ever since making his anticipated return at Naturena. One thing that has been his concern is not having all the players at Naturena available. This time around Baxter has explained Chiefs’ decision of letting one of their highly-rated players go back home due to an urgent emergency. According to Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi had to let go of Samir Nurkovic as he had to travel back to Serbia. This follows after reports stating that his father is “seriously ill” and Nurkovic wanted to offer all the support he can to make sure that his parent gets well soon. “He has been allowed to go home to be with his seriously ill father,” said Baxter talking to the media after the game against SuperSport United.

This was a granted family responsibility leave for Nurkovic to return home and be with his loved ones during these challenging times. There hasn’t been any timeline set for his return to Chiefs, as he’s currently injured and nursing his injury. This means that Nurkovic will go through rehabilitation in Serbia after the whole surgery. He’s expected to be back in action around January as he needs to make sure that he heals from his knee injury, which means he will miss a lot of games this season. Already, Chiefs is slim up front as it doesn’t have enough firepower. Baxter has dived into Nurkovic matter during the post-matching presentation as they defeated SuperSport United 2-1 in the DStv Premiership encounter this past weekend.

Amakhosi have swiftly moved to the fifth position on the log standings after seven matches. The former Bafana Bafana stated that what they did for Nurkovic isn’t new as it was done for Leonardo Castro who was back home in Colombia to recover from his injury. Baxter stated that Nurkovic will have to fight for his spot at Chiefs when he gets back from Serbia. “And he is getting his rehab there as we are in contact with the doctors. We did the same with Leonardo Castro [when he went to Colombia while injured], that went very well. So, we are allowing that [for Nurkovic] and I think it’s correct and it’s right to do that. When he gets back he’s going to have to fight for his place,” said Baxter talking to the media.
