Opinion: A lot of fans are eager to see Phete in action.

Thibang Phete is one of the names that pop up on the lips of South African fans now and again, but not many have been fortunate enough to watch him play, on account of him playing in a league that some would assume is an obscure one, but one which has afforded him the platform to grow his game for the past six years.

So much so that he’s been called up for Bafana Bafana twice in recent times, only to have to withdraw from the squad, first due to contracting the deadly Coronavirus and then as a result of injury.

Therefore, it goes without saying that a lot of fans back in Mzansi are eager to see the defender-cum-midfielder in action, to see whether he’s not the missing piece in the national team jigsaw puzzle.

Too bad he’s not intent on coming back to play his football in his country of birth, where he’s never played at the top level, but it’s all for the good, he maintains.

Hailing from a city famed for its quality diamonds, and quietly going about his business in the country that gave birth to Cristiano Ronaldo.
