(Opinion) Reason South Africa lost 2-1 to Morocco

In a clash between South Africa and Morocco at Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium, Morocco walked away as winners. It was a Group K Africa Cup of Nations qualification match. There was a lot of expectations from the South African national team but they failed to deliver. Morocco was the best team on the night truth be told. They dominated the game from all aspects, I personally think South Africa were lucky they could have lost by five goals or more. They were not convincing at all with only one shot on target and a total of five shots, they let our country down. It is clear what the national team coach Hugo Broos is trying to achieve by selecting young players, he is planning and preparing for the future but it is costing us in the present.

Here are some reasons why I think South Africa lost:

● Selected players are not on form

Hugo Broos believes in young players but currently they are not on good form even from club level. Mamelodi Sundowns is the dominating team in South Africa with a variety of good players who can perform better.

● The style of play

The way I see it, South African players don't grasp clearly the tactics Hugo Broos is trying to implement or those tactics don't suit our players. South Africa is known for its beautiful passing and dribbling style of play.
