Jurgen Klopp made a lot of changes to his team before the game against Southampton. Players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgin Van Dijk, Trent Alexander Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, and Fabinho were not in the starting lineup.
Southampton put a lot of pressure on Liverpool in the first 13 minutes, and it paid off when Redmond scored a brilliant goal for Southampton in the 13th minute. James Milner's leg got in the way of his shot, but it still got past the goalie.
Roberto Firmino tied the game for Liverpool with a free kick in the 19th minute, but the linesman said he was offside before the free kick was taken. The referee had to call the goal back, so the score stayed 1–0 for Southampton.
If Firmino hadn't moved before the ball was played, the goal would have been allowed to stand.
