Orlando Pirates have reached the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup, following their 1-0 victory against Jwaneng Galaxy in the second leg of their preliminary round of the competition.

A single goal from midfielder Linda Mntambo saw the Buccaneers winning the two-legged match 4-0 on aggregate to reach the group stages of the competition.

The Soweto giants went into the clash having already placed one foot into the group stages, after their convincing 3-0 win in Botswana last weekend.

Coach Josef Zinnbauer started with a different team than the one which started last weekend, with long-forgotten goalkeeper, Siyabonga Mpontshane getting a starting nod.

After a boring and goalless first half, the home team raised their attacking tempo and Mntambo finally opened the scoring charts in the 55th minute. handing his side a lead.

The Botswana side, like they did in the first half, failed to create any scoring opportunities, to even raise the hopes of staging a fight back.

1-0 is how it will end in Soweto, with Pirates securing the spot in the group stages of the competition, with a comfortably 4-0 aggregate score.

The Buccaneers have previously done well in this competition, having reached the finals of the competition in 2015.

The group stage draw will be conducted by CAF once all the preliminaries matches are completed.
