Mohamed Salah proved again why he is regarded as the best player in the world at the moment. The Egyptian has been instrumental in Liverpool’s current form, and doesn’t seem like stopping anytime soon.
Mohammed Salah has been consistent for the past 3 seasons at Liverpool, breaking records left right and centre. The start of the 2021/2022 season has been Salah’s best start to the season having amassed 7 goals and 4 assists in 8 matches. Salah has scored 9 goals in 8 consecutive matches for Liverpool. He arguably should have won the award for the Premier League player of the month in August, but somehow was robbed and the award went to Cristiano Ronaldo.
He has proven why he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or and his peers and other coaches regard him as the best player in the world currently. Jurgen Klopp had this to say about Salah after the victory against Watford, “Come on, who is better than him? We don't have to talk about what Messi and Ronaldo have done for football and their dominance, but right now he is the best.” Since his arrival to Liverpool, Salah has managed to win the Player of the Season in the 2017/18 season and won the golden boot in 2017/18 and 2018/19. Even when Liverpool won the Champions League, Salah wasn't in the discussion for the Ballon d’or or Uefa Best player award.
Salah doesn't only perform in “smaller games”, he has seen his versatility and skill in the big games as well. The only player who we can compare him to over the past 18 months or so is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish International has also been in sensational form having scored the most goals this calendar year with 51 goals. I still argue that Salah deserves recognition as the best player in the world.
