Chiefs fans reveal what’s making the club lose matches and contributed to their trophy drought

(Source: Twitter.com - @KaizerChiefs)

Kaizer Chiefs' four-match unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership was ended by the deadly Stellenboch FC on Tuesday afternoon. As they couldn’t match the resilience of the Stellies at FNB Stadium, which led to yet another three points lost at home. Stellenbosch continue with their dream 2021/22 season as Ashley Du Preez took a long short that left Chiefs’ defense and goalkeeper in disbelief. What’s crazy is that Du Preez was recently linked with a move to Amakhosi, surely now he has stamped his authorities in the Soweto giants management. Who knows maybe they might revisit their quest of getting his services as he had proved that he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier Soccer League. Let’s face it, Chiefs found it difficult to mark him as he’s fast and tricky when he’s on the ball.

The Cape-Town-based side has swiftly moved to the number two spot on the log standings, just below Mamelodi Sundowns who has two games in hand. However, both clubs have 19 points and this will be yet another interesting season. If the likes of Chiefs are not performing well in the league, this has allowed other so-called small clubs to challenge for the DStv Premiership title. Amakhosi have managed to get 12 points in their nine games and they’re in the seventh position on the log. Stuart Baxter’s men had about nine days to fully plan for Stellenbosch as their schedule is not tough in this campaign. However, they’ve disappointed their millions of fans for dropping valuable points. They’re now worried if they will ever end their six-year trophy drought as it seems like Amakhosi are failing to win games.

Chiefs fans feel that Baxter’s love for defense formation has led to the club’s losses this season. As he doesn’t mind playing six or more defensive players on his starting line-up. The former Bafana Bafana mentor believes in pairing Erick Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso in the central defense, which has cost Chiefs several times. Instead of utilising his offense players to the best of their advantage. Also, the Briton has been criticised for making late substitutions, instead of making early changes if players are struggling on the field. Also, fans feel that Baxter will continue playing older players as he doesn’t believe in young talent. Hence, they’ve been calling for the club to release him.

Let's take a look at some comments from Twitter:

@Wayne75567695 said, “With Baxter’s arrogance we’ll never go anywhere, too defensive and makes late subs. Why not give Kambole a chance like Bernard Parker? Sekgotha needs to come on early. Send Mathoho and Cardoso to the stands.”

@SekitiWaMothapo said, “Sekgota needs to start the game. The thing of starting with defensive players must stop.”

@MphoFox said, “Baxter should be ashamed of himself.”

@Bati_Tizo said, “Dakota Stellenbosch! When I saw Cardoso, Mathoho, Alexander, and Parker in the same field I knew we would lose!”
