The rivalry between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is so massive in a way that some of the Kaizer Chiefs' and Orlando Pirates' supporters don't care much about the log standing as long as they are above their Soweto rivals.
At the beginning of the season, it was the Buccaneers who looked sharp and well organised to challenge for the league title, but for their Soweto brothers, it was a different story.
Kaizer Chiefs had one of the worst starts of their existence. They had only managed to win a single game in their first six games before their last game against Chippa United, where they ran riot, trumping Gavin Hunt's man by four goals unanswered.
Looking at the table now, it is very clear that the table has now turned because, after 7 games played, the two most supported clubs in the country are only separated by 2 points.
If the Glamour boys become victorious in their next game and the Buccaneers fail to run away with all three points, they will be level on points and separated by goal difference, or the Kaizer Chiefs will be above the Orlando Pirates.
With that mentioned, Orlando Pirates players, together with their supporters, know very well that this is not something they want to wake up to and they will do everything to ensure that they remain above their counterparts for the rest of the season if possible.
Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, seemed to have found their missing piece after scoring four times during their last match. If they could replicate that, the season is still young and they could even challenge for the league title.
It is going to be interesting to see what happens, and all we can do is wait and see as the season unfolds. Do you think Kaizer Chiefs will be able to catch Orlando Pirates, or do you think the buccaneers will remain above until the last day?
