Reports: Chiefs planning to give their sidelined player another chance

Football can be unpredictable in all aspects, even if you're well equipped in terms of knowledge about it. A player can be a bench warmer for many games and get one opportunity and pounce on it like it's the nene of the world. After that, the same player that was written is back on the line up and getting all sorts of priases from the fans and technical team. Football is all ups and downs, the aim is to continuously work on yourself and get better. Now, that's what the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has been doing well over the past couple of weeks.

As he was part of the DStv Compact Cup winners Warriors FC which was coached by Dylan Kerr and enjoyed a superb run. This has led to Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter to hint that Khune's performance in the DStv Compact Cup might have led to more selection troubles at Naturena. By the looks of things, the former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper is back, and better and might find himself on the starting eleven sooner than supporters think. “I believe it’s a compliment to Itu, a compliment to the team, and Lee [Baxter] has been doing an excellent job with Itu... Well, he doesn’t give me anything to think about other than what I was already thinking about... And what he does is put pressure on the other keepers by reminding them that they shouldn’t dismiss him,” said the Englishman speaking to the media.

Kaizer Chiefs have three other goalkeepers, namely Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen. They all have been give a chance to play, however Baxter has been using Akpeyi a lot in the stating line up. Hence, he's regarded as the club's number one shot-stopper. By the looks of things, Itu will have to work harder to get another opportunity at Naturena. “What I’d say is that it doesn’t surprise me with Itu, that it’s exactly what we’re looking for, that kind of consistent performance in training and games, and I’m confident that if Itu does that, he’ll put a lot of pressure on the people in front of him," said Baxter speaking to the media.
