Five players signed by Kaizer Chiefs set to start against Royal AM

Report: Former Kaizer Chiefs player makes a spectacular return to the former team.

Oops! After "condoning racism" in Tembisa, the DA mayor was hauled.

In the first league match of the 2022–23 PSL season, Kaizer Chiefs play Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday night.

The game begins at 17:30.

The game is undoubtedly a chance for both sides to debut their new players, and on that particular day, all eyes will be on Chiefs and Arthur Zwane.

Zwane starts a new chapter as the head coach of the Chiefs, his first significant coaching position since quitting playing more than ten years ago.

Eight new players have been added by the 48-year-old coach, including Mduduzi Shabalala, who was promoted from the club's Diski Challenge team.

Zwane undoubtedly has a strategy to attempt and halt Royal AM because he is aware of how challenging it is to defeat them, and he will probably use a different playing lineup this time.

Currently, it appears like just five players have a reasonable chance of getting the start versus Royal AM, with the other three either beginning on the bench or watching from the stands.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi just made a comeback from an injury, but during the preseason he didn't spend enough time with his new Chiefs teammates.

Another player who won't likely make the starting lineup is George Matlou. Zwane's choice to let the midfielder play for Bafana Bafana against Comoros may indicate that the player isn't yet ready to play for Chiefs.

Last but not least, Shabalala's elevation to the first squad is subject to stipulations because the young attacker is still in school and the Chiefs plan to gradually acclimate him to premier league football.

Zwane now has five capable possibilities for the match versus Royal AM; The South African website looks at those players.

Solomons was just acquired from Swallows FC, but since Ramahlwe Mphahlele was released by Chiefs, Zwane is now down to Reeve Frosler and utility player Njabulo Blom.

However, the Chiefs lack options at left-back due to the injuries to S'fiso Hlanti and Sibusiso Mabiliso, so Frosler may go to the left and Solomons may switch to right-back.

Kwinika is an obvious contender for the center-back position at Chiefs, which was long held by Erick Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso.

Kwinika is anticipated to start with either Njabulo Ngcobo, Thabani Dube, or Mathoho now that Cardoso is out, however, Zwane may decide to bench the former Bloemfontein Celtic player.

Phathutshedzo Nange is suspended for this game against Royal AM, although Chiefs have enough depth in that area that his absence is unimportant.

Maart is capable of playing as a 6, 8, or 10 while Zwane is capable of playing a double-six with the Bafana Bafana international partnering Cole Alexander or Blom.

Sithebe fills the lone spot that Amakhosi had trouble filling after George Maluleka left for Sundowns.

And even though he didn't play for AmaZulu in the second half of the previous season, the Chiefs are well aware of what Sithebe can provide, and the game against Royal AM might be his biggest break.

When Zwane picks his starting lineup to take on Shawn Mkhize's team in Durban on Saturday, Preez's name will be first on the list.

This is so that Zwane can decide what kind of strikers to bring in before the transfer market closes in September because he is the only reliable out-and-out striker in the current Chiefs lineup.
