Why Pirates Captain Was Substituted...

Tapelo Xoki's inclusion as a substitute in Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro's second game against Stellenbosch FC has been justified.

After making his Pirates debut alongside Nkosinathi Sibisi against Swallows FC last weekend, Xoki started the Buccaneers' match against Stellenbosch on the bench because the Spanish coach selected Olisa Ndah to start alongside Sibisi.

As Stellies threw all they had at Bucs in the closing minutes of the game, Riveiro smelled danger and chose to play it safe by removing captain Innocent Maela, who had previously received a yellow card, and bringing on Xoki to deal with the Western Cape team's speedy attackers.

"Xoki came in after Maela received a yellow card and Stellenbosch played the majority of their aerial balls through the left flank in the first half.

If I recall correctly, they introduced a striker with the number 37 (Sinethemba Mngomezulu), the huge striker, whose name I can't recall.

So, I believe they were looking for more obstacles in that area, which is why we selected Xoki, who had no cautions and who came on really nicely in the last seconds, at his post-game press conference.
