Soccer | local refree missed out on CAF assignments

SOCCER – Local FIFA accredited referees have been left out in the international assignment of the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers.

None of the six local referees have been fixtured for matchday of five of the rescheduled finals of the continent’s showpiece.

Some of the FIFA accredited local referees include Thulani Sibandze, Thembinkosi Dlamini, Thokozani Dlamini, Celumusa Siphepho, Letticia Vienna and Tencwala Soko.

Referees usually receive match allowances of not less than E10 000. EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said such matters were handled by CAF when contacted yesterday.

“These are CAF issues since the competition you are referring to is under the auspices of CAF and they are also the one who assigns referees. There is nothing much I can say as far as this matter is concerned,” he said. Meanwhile, the home match between Sihlangu and Guinea Bissau will be officiated by referees from Rwanda on March 26 at Mavuso Sports Centre.

The Dominic Kunene -led charges are currently rooted at the bottom of Group I with a single point in four matches.
