Chippa United duo hungry for game time

Chippa United’s new signings, midfielder Siphelele Luthuli and Zimbabwean defender Ronald Pfumbidzai, said they had moved to Gqeberha as they were hungry for game time.

Chippa announced the arrival of the Royal AM pair on Thursday to bolster their midseason effort.

They join the Chilli Boys at a time when the team has turned over a new leaf in the DStv Premiership and results are coming in under the leadership of interim coach Kurt Lentjies.

Chippa were unbeaten in their last four games of last year and are 12th on the log.

Luthuli, 26, promised Chippa fans he would uphold those positive results and also add a few goals of his own towards the team’s success.

But first he’ll need to impress Lentjies at training to get the game time he has been craving for the past six months.

“It was an easy decision to join Chippa because it’s a good team and I have been wanting to join them for a long time now,” he said.

“I am willing to stay here and improve on my football.

“It is more than six months that I haven’t played, so I told myself that Chippa are a big team and I just have to come in and work hard and play again, because I miss playing.”

Pfumbidzai, 27, said: “I am very happy to be given this opportunity. I just want to thank Chippa management and the coaches. .

“My focus is to be back in the field of play because I think it’s been a month without playing football so my focus right now is to work on my fitness levels so I can get back on the field.

“Chippa gave me a call three years ago, but I was still at Celtic and I was happy there.

“I think when they called me again I wasn’t playing at Royal AM because of certain things, so this time I just said yes,” Pfumbidzai said.

In the media statement sent out, the club states that the players were selected for their quality and consistency in all aspects of the game.
