Chiefs set to drop down in the PSL log standings following their recent challenges

Kaizer Chiefs were showing signs of brilliance for the past couple of games in the DStv Premiership. However, things have taken a left turn at Naturena as they cannot honour their December Premiership matches thus far. Chiefs were sitting nicely on the second position on the log standings just a couple of days ago. However, at the moment Amakhosi have been moved to the fifth position after 13 matches, they’ve collected 22 points. Their last game was eleven days ago, as they thrashed Swallows FC by 3-1 at Dobsonville Stadium in the Soweto Derby. This match was supposed to be the turnaround for Amakhosi in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in a way that they can catch up to Mamelodi Sundowns. As they recently had an eight points difference at the beginning of December.

However, now the points difference has climbed up to 12 since Chiefs haven’t played their last two matches due to the COVID-19 outbreak at Naturena. Chiefs pulled a no-show on Saturday afternoon as they were scheduled to play against Cape Town City FC at FNB Stadium. This followed after the Glamour Boys wrote to the PSL to express their current challenges with the deadly virus that has prohibited the club from playing their games. As they couldn’t come up with a solid starting eleven due to many players being on quarantine. Chiefs are still expected to drop down to the seventh position on the log standings.

As they’ve stated that they will not be able to pitch up to their midweek match against Golden Arrows, as the Coronavirus cases continue to increase at their camp. A second consecutive no-show will affect their morale in the league, despite having games in hand. At the moment, it’s unknown if Amakhosi will be penalised for not honouring their matches by the PSL Disciplinary Committee or not.
