One of the seven players released by Kaizer Chiefs this week has already found a new club, according to the Siya crew. Brylon Petersen, 25, has signed with Maritzburg United, where he will reunite with his former Naturena coach Ernst Middendorp.
The juvenile goalkeeper had no chance of unseating Itumeleng Khune at Chiefs, but he was highly respected after being signed by the Glamour Boys following an outstanding Varsity Cup performance for Wits and then offered a contract.
Petersen is also one of the few football players with a bachelor's degree in engineering, so when he retires, he'll have something to fall back on.
In Maritzburg, he will compete for the No. 1 spot against Marcel Engelhardt, a German who joined the Team of Choice six months ago.
Due to the departures of Jethren Barr and Bongani Mpandle at the end of last season, Middendorp was always going to be seeking for a replacement, and one he could trust, given the importance of the goalkeeping position.
