Sponsorship in football nowadays is everything as it helps the clubs to deal and function in the world where money runs the world, the best clubs in the world who has the best players in the world has some of the biggest names in the world as their sponsors to help keep the club afloat. In South Africa, it is no different as clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has sponsors like Roc Nation and Hyundai South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has Toyota South Africa and Vodacom, and Orlando Pirates Football Club has Vodacom and Kia South Africa to help them keep afloat.
The latter has their Chairman and owner Dr. Irvin Khoza who is well known for his great negotiation skills to thank for acquiring them the best sponsors around, and his work can also be seen with the Premier Soccer League(PSL) where he is also the Chairman of the Board.
He secured the second tier and top tier of the PSL sponsorship that has brought the clubs in the two-tier money to keep them afloat, GladAfrica and Dstv are sponsoring the two top tiers respectively.
The Iron Duke as he is known to South African football lovers has again shown his ability to land a big sponsor, as they announced that they have went into a partnership with cellular giants APPO South Africa.
The length of the partnership was not revealed but the partnership will grow both companies in the country, and APPO is not a stranger to partnering with big companies as it is one of the sponsors for the International Cricket Council(ICC) World Cups.
I think with the world going digital, this will help the Buccanneers grow in that direction as well, as this is a win for both companies.
