Top 3 Records Messi Holds That Ronaldo Doesn't

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are probably two of the greatest football players of all time. For the past two decades, they have been at the top of their game.

Messi and CR7 swapped clubs in the same summer for the first time in their respective careers in 2021. After advising Juventus of his wish to leave, Ronaldo returned to Manchester United, while Messi completed one significant free transfer by joining Paris Saint-Germain.

Nonetheless, we will attempt to look at three records that Messi holds that Ronaldo does not.

1. It's incredible to consider how long Messi and Ronaldo have kept their standing as the world's most gifted combo, scoring 756 and 801 goals, respectively. Messi, on the other hand, holds the record for most goals scored for a single club.

Messi scored 672 goals in 778 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, whilst Ronaldo's best amount of goals for a single club was 450 during his Real Madrid stint.

2. Messi is the all-time leader in goals scored in a calendar year. In one calendar year, he scored 79 goals for Barcelona and 12 for Argentina in 69 games. Messi surpassed Gerd Muller of Bayern Munich, who established the previous global record of 85 goals in a calendar year.

Ronaldo, on the other side, scored the most goals in a year in 2012, when he scored 63 goals in 71 games.

3. Finally, the PSG forward owns the record for most assists in a single league. He has 266 assists in his Barcelona career, becoming him the all-time leading assist provider in La Liga. Meanwhile, Ronaldo recorded the most assists throughout his stint in Spain, with 132 for Real Madrid.
