Match officials punished for Kaizer Chiefs Penalty against Amazulu

Jelly Chavani has been punished by the South African Football Association (SAFA) following a dubious penalty he awarded to Kaizer Chiefs.

Chavani awarded penalty to Chiefs on a game against Amazulu on Saturday after the ball hit the chest of Tapelo Xoki but it was called for handball.

Amazulu were leading the game and were only few seconds away from claiming maximum points but Keagan Dolly equalized through the penalty and forced a draw.

According to Soccer Laduma the referee who was in charge for the encounter has suffered suspension by SAFA Referees Review Committee for changing the outcomes of the game.

However Chavani's decision to award Chiefs a penalty did not come immediately.

This comes after Chavani consulted with the fourth official Moeketsi Molelekoa on the touch line before making the decision.

Both the officials have been suspended for four weeks for their embarrassing call on the match.

The two will also not be allowed to be near a high profile game for another two weeks.

However their suspension will not change the outcomes of the game and will not hand three points to Amazulu.
