Having come through the club's youth set up which also saw the likes of Percy Tau come from, it was expected that he will be a big star as he was promoted to the Sundowns first team.
Mkhulise has previously been sent on loan at Black Leopards and Richards Bay and returned to Sundowns in 2018 and at first he became a regular starting games and coming from the bench. But with Sundowns having a number of players competing with him in the same position, he has since seen his playing time limited.
And now according to The Citizen, Mkhulise has become concerned about his stay at the club and together with his representatives has asked for the club, to consider releasing him even on loan ahead of the new season.
According to the publication, Mkhulise has already attracted interest from a number of clubs Including Cape Town City, Sundowns and City have a good relationship when it comes to player's movements between the 2 clubs, with the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Teko Modise, Kermit Erasmus and most recently Bradley Ralani.
Should Mkhulise move to City, he will be able to work with coach Eric Tinkler and he will be able to get game time, with coach Tinkler known to give young players like Mkhulise game time, as it was the case at his previous teams Supersport United and Orlando Pirates.
