Is There Bad News for the Orlando Pirates' Star? Take a look at this update.
Is the Orlando Pirates' star set to miss the AFCON?
Milovan Rajevac, the coach of the Black Stars, presented his 40-man provisional roster for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations competition last week, albeit the identity of about 40 of the players in question have still to be revealed.
The selection has not yet been confirmed, but local reports say that Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been excluded from the squad, which means that he will not be traveling to Cameroon for the competition next month.
Following his continued injury problems, according to Nhyira FM through GhanaWeb, the 28-year-old has been ruled out of the national team. The English-born goalkeeper Joe Wollacott, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, and Richard Attah will be the squad's backup goalkeepers.
On 6 September, the Black Stars were defeated 1-0 by South Africa in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifying match, and Ofori was forced to leave the field due to an injury. Ofori has 25 caps for Ghana, but has not played for either club or nation since.
His countrymen are expected to travel to Doha, Qatar, this week in order to begin their tournament preparations, though it is unclear whether these plans, as well as the AFCON tournament itself, will be affected by the recent surge in Covid-19 cases across the globe. Covid-19 is a virus that affects the respiratory system.
With the present state of affairs surrounding the pandemic, the footballing world has been thrown into chaos once more, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has arranged critical talks with important role-players this week in order to map a course ahead.
