Chippa and Baroka play to lively draw

On a rainy Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Baroka and Chippa United played to a 2-2 DStv Premiership draw.

Both teams will be disappointed that they did not win this game, as Chippa is still in danger of being pulled into the promotion and relegation play-offs in their last two games.

Baroka, who are stranded at the bottom of the table, are still in serious danger of immediate relegation, as they are two points behind Swallows, who are in third place.

Chippa will try to avoid relegation by beating Swallows and TS Galaxy in their final matches, while Baroka will need to overcome SuperSport United and Maritzburg United to stay alive.

After being set up by Siphesihle Mkhize, Namibian midfielder Riaan Hanamub blasted a tremendous left-footed shot that landed on the roof of the net after 67 minutes.

Chippa United's lead was short-lived as Baroka, who are still winless on the road this season, equalized through a magnificent solo effort by substitute attacker Dan Ndhlovu.

Baroka has lost 11 of their 14 games away from home and only secured three draws.

After dribbling past Veluyeke Zulu after 75 minutes, Ndhlovu equalized with a close range toe poke that sneaked past goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua.

In the 83rd minute, another substitute, Decide Chauke, struck a left-footed shot that gave Kazapua no chance.

Thokozani Sekotlong, who was given space to pick a place and perform in a difficult area, helped Chippa secure this critical home point deep into injury time

Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows drew 0-0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in the other match played on Saturday afternoon.
