Cristiano Ronaldo scored a game-changing goal against Arsenal in the Premier League. After sharing points with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a few weeks ago, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner netted a brace to seal the Red Devils' 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes, who was making his 100th appearance for the English, also scored as the two Portuguese players led the Red Devils to their first Premier League victory over Arsenal since 2016.
With Michael Carrick having left Manchester United at the end of his short tenure as interim manager, Ralf Rangnick will take over as manager of the prestigious club, with his first game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Cristiano Ronaldo's brace against Arsenal brings his career total to 801 goals in over 1000 competitive games.
Cristiano Ronaldo's 801 career goals are broken down below:
5 goals scored as a Sporting Lisbon player.
130 goals scored so far as a Manchester United player.
450 goals scored as a Real Madrid player.
101 goals scored as a Juventus player.
115 goals scored for his country.
Cristiano Ronaldo also became the first player in history to score 801 official goals in over 100 competitive games, surpassing Pele by a wide margin.
Records are meant to be broken and set. Cristiano Ronaldo may reach 900 goals or more before retiring, but that record will almost certainly be broken by another footballer.
Here are two notable in-form footballers who have the potential to break Cristiano Ronaldo's current football goal record of 801;
1. Robert Lewandowski- FC Bayern Munich
Despite being over 30, FC Bayern Munich's and Poland's striker Robert Lewandowski has amassed an impressive goal tally over the years.
The sextuple winner has over 500 club goals and is the highest goal scorer for the Poland national team with 74 goals, so it's no surprise that he's been named 2021 striker of the year.
With consistency and improved lethality in front of goal, Robert Lewandowski may well surpass Cristiano Ronaldo's 801 career goals, especially given that Bayern Munich's team constantly feeds him up front and he already has 64 goals this season.
2. Lionel Messi- Paris Saint Germain
Lionel Messi, the 2021 Ballon d'Or winner and one of the most consistent footballers of all time, is arguably the only player tipped to break Cristiano Ronaldo's current goal record.
The Argentine forward currently has 756 career goals, and given the super stars he has at PSG and the Argentina national team, he could easily surpass 800 before retiring.
Again, with age on his side and a better goal-scoring ratio than Cristiano Ronaldo, it may only be a matter of time before the Argentine surpasses Ronaldo as the all-time leading goal-scorer in football history.
