WATCH | EFF stage picket to get govt to allow supporters back in sports stadiums

He has no idea what he's doing,' Malema said of EFF leader Julius Malema's response to 'coward' Nathi Mthethwa

Outside his Pretoria office, EFF leader Julius Malema responded to sports minister Nathi Mthethwa's criticism of the party.

The EFF's march to Mthethwa's office this week was "ill-advised" and "populist theatrics," according to Mthethwa.

Malema responded to Mthethwa by telling supporters that the minister was "a coward who is embroiled in ANC factional fights."

Mthethwa, according to Malema, is uninterested in matters affecting sports fans.

Nathi Mthethwa is a slacker who has no idea what he's doing. "How can you be a minister of sports, arts, and culture if you can't even walk faster than a rat?" says the minister.

A minister of sport must instil trust in his or her audience. A minister of sport must have the appearance of a sportsperson. He isn't interested in sports, the arts, or culture; all he is interested in is ANC factional politics," Malema remarked.

He urged Ramaphosa to "relace Mthethwa with an all-rounder who inspires confidence and understands the dynamics of sports, arts, and culture."

Malema emphasised during his speech that restoring stadiums was also about rebuilding the economy.

He explained that stadiums are used to demonstrate how irrational these people have become.

Allow the economy to open up.

Activate the stadiums. Because their bellies are empty, children are no longer attending school. The EFF will go to the SA Football Association if stadiums are not opened in the next few days, he warned (Safa).

If they don't open in a week, we'll head to Safa or maybe find our way to the FNB Stadium and sleep there. And then show them that we are still alive the next day," Malema remarked.

Mthethwa claimed the EFF's picket was "misguided" earlier this week.

"The EFF is ill-advised to expect their showmanship to pay off. "They are encouraged to respect South Africans' fundamental intelligence and stop their antics," Mthethwa said.

"It's odd and misguided to picket at the department of sport, arts, and culture and direct attention at the minister on a topic based on the Disaster Management Act.
