It's always an achievement to be part of a massive club like Orlando Pirates, but that comes with a lot of pressure too. Hence, some players struggle to make their mark at Pirates and that could lead to their departure. When Austin Mawowo joined the Buccaneers back in 2019, there was expectations that he will make his mark and even get to stay longer at Mayfair. However, Mawowo found it difficult to break into the starting eleven under Josef Zinnbauer and even when the interim co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids were in charge at Pirates, they didn't include in their plans.
This meant that he had to look for another club where he can try and work on his game plans. When he was loaned out to Swallows FC, he still didn't have games under his belt and Pirates decided to let him go after the loan ended. Now, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder has joined Zesco United as he's hoping to rebuild his football career. Also, this is a team that's in his home country and he knows it pretty well. "DEAL DONE Former Orlando Pirates and Swallows winger Austin Muwowo has signed a 2-year deal with @ZescoUnitedFC," wrote Unplayable on their official Twitter account.
Zesco is busy revamping their squad and they saw Mawowo as a great addition to their side. Looking back in his days at Nkana FC and even Forest Rangers, he has shown a glimpse of brilliance that can easily influence any club that gives him an opportunity to play. One thing about the left-winger is that he'll look back at his time in Mzansi and wonder what went wrong. As he was putting in the work at training and whenever he was given a chance to play, he tried his best. Nevertheless, Mawowo will look into working well with his new team mates and technical team at Zesco.
