Premier League

Image: injured Sundowns star spotted back in training

The top-tier league in South Africa resumes in August this year, and most of the Premier Soccer League(PSL) if not them all have returned to training to prepare for the season ahead.

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is the latest club to return to training after the club gave their players four weeks away from football after winning a treble that consisted of the Dstv Premiership, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup, and that saw the Brazilians visit various places across the globe in their quest to rest and recharge for the season ahead.

The players first reported to training last week Friday to have medical check-ups before they could hit the field of play yesterday to start with their preparations for the new season, and during their training session yesterday, a player who missed most of the action last season due to injury was available.

One of the club's January 2022 signings, Erwin Saavreda who missed most of the action towards the end of last season due to injuries was spotted in training yesterday alongside his teammates, as they prepare for the season ahead.

His first six months at the club have not been what he would have wanted them to be, but I think the former Bolivar Football Club attacking middlefielder will fair much better than he did last season, as he is a wonderful player who can help Sundowns going forward.

And I also think that a good pre-season will help him in that regard, as it will give him a chance to get more used to the conditions and Sundowns' style of play. This will be easy to do given the club will be looking to build their team around him and other younger players at the club, as the likes of Gaston Sirino, Sbusiso Vilakazi, and Andile Jali are aging.
