Sensational youngster linked to both Chiefs and Pirates.

Word in the media is that both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs are allegedly monitoring Stellenbosch FC youngster Roy Keane Avontuur with keen interest.

The 18-year-old, who made history by becoming Stellies’ youngest-ever debutant last year, was in action at the Engen Knockout Tournament in Cape Town this past weekend, leading the Winelands outfit to a semi-final finish, where they lost out to eventual einners Ubuntu FC.

Now, according to football publication Soccer Laduma, both Amakhosi and Masandawana had sent scouts to the prestigious youth tournament to keep an eye on the midfielder, who has got the local football fraternity talking.

The public understands that both of the Gauteng giants are keen on luring the talented youngster to their respective clubs as a long-term prospect, though neither club has made an official approach for his signature just yet.

Avontuur, who made five appearances in the DStv Premiership for coach Steve Barker’s side last season, was snapped up by the Cape outfit from the renowned Old Mutual Academy.

The youngster showed up for trials for the Stellies MultiChoice (now DStv) Diski side, although his talent managed to catch the eye of the club’s first team, who offered him a professional contract in October last year.

It now remains to be seen whether either of Chiefs and Sundowns manage to lure Stellies’ prized possession away from the club.
