Teko Modise Reveals The Player Who Made Him Sweat At Club & International Level

Football is a game of ego and very rarely do you see something who is regarded as the best admitting of someone else being better than them. It takes great maturity to be able to acknowledge the person who used to give you sleepless nights and it all makes for a good story when it's all said and done as Teko Modise recently proved. It is odd some of our favorite player's favorites are usually the ones that aren't considered by fans it goes to show that we don't look at talent and ability the same from off the field as compared to people on it.

Teko Modise collaborated with the department of Sports, Arts & Recreation to host a conference in order to try and inspire the youth. This is a player who seen it all, there couldn't be a better person to try and motivate the young people considering that he also started from nothing. As part of his talk, he decided to reveal the one player he felt was giving him competition both at club level and for Bafana Bafana.

The General shared that he used to envy Papi Zothwane after breaking into the mainstream. He shared that he played the same position and was always hoping something would happen to him in order for him to get the chance as he clarified that he didn't mean this in a malicious way but tether competitively. The star the recountered a moment he had with Zothwane following a Bafana Bafana against Scotland. According to Teko this is the best game Papi Zothwane had ever played and he felt like he had no chance.

The moral of the story Teko Modise shared was probably to highlight that you should wait for your chance as it finally happened to him and he went to make history. He shared that this continued to Mamelodi Sundowns as Papi Zothwane was still around and wearing the number 10 and then again Teko also got his opportunity to shine at Chloorkop and would also go on to wear the special jersey.

Papi Zothwane is hardly mentioned when speaking about talented players and this goes to show that he is underrated. Teko Modise is one of the greatest and for him to give credit to this star, it shows that he was a force to be reckoned with at his prime. He is still continuing to contribute to the game as he appointed as the assistant coach of Uthongathi back in December 2020.
