Saavedra to Sundowns a done deal Gaston Sirino’s departure imminent?

It's a done deal from Saavedra to Sundowns! Is Gaston Sirino on his way out?

After Club Boliver's departure, Mamelodi Sundowns are anticipated to complete the signing of Erwin Saavedra in the coming days.

Sundowns are said to have paid roughly R18.5 million for Saavedra, which could mean Gaston Sirino's time at Chloorkop is over.

Sirino has been seeking for a move away from Sundowns for months, with Al Ahly being his favoured destination.

Sundowns, on the other hand, denied him that opportunity at the start of the season, believing he was still very much a part of their long-term plans.

Given the Egyptian giants' history with Sundowns, Sirino understands that the anticipated move to Al Ahly may not happen.

The fact that Sirino's former coach, Pitso Mosimane, is now at Al Ahly has strained the relationship, prompting Sundowns to reject their offer.

Locally, the Orlando Pirates are said to be quite interested in the Uruguayan attacker – but whether they can afford him is another matter.

Sundowns' imminent acquisition of Saavedra could indicate that the club is attempting to move on without Sirino, and that the 30-year-old could be sold to recoup the money spent on the Bolivian midfielder.

Sirino isn't playing with the same vigour and intensity for Sundowns, which could be because he doesn't want to be there.

Sirino's biggest contribution for Sundowns this season has been the one goal he scored in 11 games, and perhaps it's time for a reality check.

Sundowns should honour Sirino's request by giving it, especially after hardly using him since the Al Ahly claims surfaced.

After this season's statistics don't reflect Sirino's full potential, retaining him at the club would surely be detrimental to his career.
