The premier soccer league referee has been suspended by SAFA for incorrectly awarding a penalty at the end of the game. The ref was whistleblowing the game between Amazulu and Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend, the game ended at a goal apiece, and it was a game that the Kwa Zulu natal team was supposed to win and Chiefs should have lost. The referee's name is Moeketsi Molelekoa, and he will never get another.
People believe he took a bribe, which is why his case is being probed further so that they can learn more about what he did, or did not do. His future does not appear bright, but he must be protected, as refs should be, rather than being thrown under the bus, as many others are.
The elite soccer league must have VAR, and the ref, unfortunately, did what his assistant advised him: it was a penalty that did not exist.
