Done Deal: Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns have missed out on signing a star player

The Premier Soccer League side has put pen to paper with their existing stars, following being headhunted by other massive Gauteng clubs. This has come as a surprise for many fans as they were hoping for such talent in different colours this season. However, it seems like none of the offers he received was good enough. Hence the best option for him was to stay with the Western Cape-based side.

The player in question is Cape Town City central defender Taariq Fielies, who has signed a new contract with his current club until 2025. As a key player for the Mother City outfit, this was a much-needed move, as they wanted to keep him within the club as he’s able to destabilize their defense. Even though there were reports that Mamelodi Sundowns was looking to get his signature as a potential replacement for Ricardo Nascimento. However, Fielies price tag was R8 million within the transfer window. He was regarded as their most prized player and the impressive thing was that he was willing to move to any top team. That’s the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates came calling, unfortunately, nothing good came out of it. As the 29-year-old defender has chosen to sign a long-term deal with City.

Fielies has proved to be an important player for the Citizens as he has played all matches in the 2021/22 season. Now, that he has signed a new deal with Cape Town City, it shows that Eric Tinkler means business, as he didn’t want to lose him to other teams in the DStv Premiership. By the looks of things, Fielies will form part of the important players for Tinkler’s side. “I am just happy to have signed a new contract with the club. I am here to help the team. We’ve reached another final, so I am happy for that and we can build from this as well,” said Fielies talking to City’s media department. As he was extremely excited about what lies ahead within Cape Town City.
