In the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final against Golden Arrows, Mamelodi Sundowns came from behind to score an away goal.

MTN8 Semi-Final

Result: Golden Arrows 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 28 August 2021

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

Gaston Sirino, Kermit Erasmus, Thapelo Morena, Andile Jali, and Sphelele Mkhulise were all recalled from Sundowns' goalless draw with Chippa Unietd, however Themba Zwane remained on the bench.

Nqobeko Dlamini gave Abafana Bes'thende the lead in the sixth minute with a brilliant low strike from range into the bottom corner.

After Pule Mmodi received a head injury around the half-hour mark, Arrows were forced to make a substitution, and Siboniso Conco was brought in to replace him.

In the final third of the first stanza, Masandawana were camped in the Abafana Bes'thende half, but the Arrows defense performed well to neutralize any threat.

The Brazilians applied pressure early in the second half, but Velemseni Ndwandwe nearly gave Arrows a 2-0 lead with a looping effort from outside the box that was parried over the bar by shot-stopper Denis Onyango eight minutes from the break.

Three minutes before the hour, Grant Kekana had Sundowns' first major chance when a deflected ball from a corner came on his way unmarked on the far side, but he steered the strike over the bar from point-blank range.

Five minutes later, the visitors made a change, with Aubrey Modiba replacing Mkhulise in midfield for fresh legs, while Seema made a change in the 64th minute, bringing on Knox Mutizwa for Michael Gumede.

In the last 18 minutes, Masandawana made a double substitution, with Pavol Safranko replacing Lyle Lakay in a tactical move and Thabiso Kutumela replacing Peter Shalulile for fresh legs up front.

Safranko leveled matters with a tap-in in the final five minutes after goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana mishandled a low cross by Kutumela, giving the Brazilians a tiny lead going into the second leg next month.
