Opinion: Why Orlando Pirates Failed To Win CAF Confederation Cup In Nigeria

It is no longer news that the final of the Caf Confederation Cup was decided yesterday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Nigeria.

The final outcome of the game was decided by a penalty shootout.

The Moroccan team RS Berkane went on to Orlando Pirates 5-4.

It would be recalled that the 120 minutes failed to produce the winner of the game as the score was still 1-1, which meant that the game had to go into the unpredictable and high-stakes round of penalties, which was won by RS Berkane players thanks to their steely nerves and determination.

RS Berkane successfully converted all five of their penalties. The penalties were converted by the efforts of Hamza Moussaoui, Youssef Zghoudi, Ismail Mokadem, and Issoufou Dayo. Brahim El Bahraoui also contributed to this success.

On the other hand, Richard Ofori, Tshegofatsho Mabasa, Bongani Jele, and Thabang Monare were successful with their penalty kicks for the Pirates, however Thembinkosi Lorch's attempt was stopped by Akbi Hamza, who dove to his left to make the save.

It my opinion, Orlando Pirates lost the game in the regulation time. They failed to take the opportunity they got by squandering their chances. Their inability to convert their chances cost them the trophy in Nigeria.

Again, Thembinkosi should not have been selected to play the penalty. If it were other players he probably might have scored.
