Kaizer Chiefs leadership on the pitch has been questioned by one of their former players. As it seems like the Soweto giants missed a core leader this season since has been sidelined, despite being available for selection at Naturena. However, the DStv Compact Cup has showed the football fraternity that you cannot doubt a player that continuously works on himself. When the fans were watching the tournament they couldn't stop talking about the Warriors FC goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune after yet another set of brilliant performances. Which helped Warriors to win the inaugural DStv Compact Cup. Hence, numerous fans kept complimenting Khune for constantly putting his all on a game, even though he was criticised for his recent performances at Naturena.
Itu has shown that he's still on top of his game, despite being demoted to the stands at Chiefs. After he played the only game in the 2021/22 season which was against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 and Amakhosi lost in the penalties. After that, Khune found it difficult to break into the starting line up again, even though he's the official captain for the Soweto giants this season. In his absence, Chiefs have been led by the ever so present Bernard Parker.
Nevertheless, the former Chiefs winger Junior Khanye stated that the 34-year-old shot-stopper should be back in the starting eleven this weekend as they take on TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup Last 32. Khanye feels that Itu is still the best goalkeeper at Naturena and South Africa as a country. He felt that if Amakhosi want to win the trophy then they will have to make some crucial changes, starting with their keeper and bring in the former Bafana Bafana star. “Itumeleng Khune is one of the best goalkeepers if not the best, and not only for Kaizer Chiefs but in South Africa and I don’t understand why he is not playing under Stuart Baxter this season. The boy has showed in the DStv Compact Cup that he is still the best and it’s true when they say that class is permanent. Khune is a properly developed goalkeeper and he still has a lot to offer to Chiefs and I would love to see him getting a chance this weekend in the Nedbank Cup match if Chiefs are serious about winning the trophy," said Khanye speaking to the media about the inclusion of Khune at Chiefs.
