According to Nigeria Today, the 35-year-old shot-stopper is searching for game time and has already been approached by interested parties.
Chiefs have had Akpeyi on their books since January 2018, when he was hired as an emergency goalkeeper due to an injury to Itumeleng Khune.
While he was initially chastised by certain Chiefs fans for his subpar performances, Akpeyi would improve his game and become one of the club's key players.
Things look to have changed now that the Chiefs have signed Brandon Petersen, leaving Stuart Baxter with difficult goalkeeping selections to make week after week.
All four goalkeepers — Khune, Akpeyi, Petersen, and Bruce Bvuma – have the potential to be Amakhosi's first choice, but only one will be able to play on matchday.
And, despite being on the substitute bench twice this season, Akpeyi has yet to make an appearance for Chiefs.
Since joining the club from Chippa United, Akpeyi has made 57 appearances, conceding 54 goals while preserving 22 clean sheets.
