Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane of Bayern Munich have all been nominated to compete for the 2022 Caf Player of the Year honour. Salah of Liverpool would be hoping to win the trophy for the third time, but first he must get past Mahrez and Mane of Manchester City, who recently left Liverpool for Bayern Munich after the 2021–22 season. The competition for the Coach of the Year (Men) award will feature Pitso Mosimane, who guided Al Ahly to their third consecutive Caf Champions League final, Aliou Cisse, the coach of Senegal who won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, and Mandla Ncikazi, who guided Orlando Pirates to the Caf Confederation Cup final.
The nominees for the women's categories will be revealed in due course, according to Caf, and other awards that will be up for grabs include Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year. The ceremony will take place prior to the Women's Cup of Nations (Wafcon) final, which will be held in Morocco between July 2 and July 23. At all levels, the time frame under consideration is from September 2021 to June 2022.
Nominations for coach of the year include Kamou Malo of Burkina Faso, Amir Abdou of Comoros, Carlos Quieroz of Egypt, Pitso Mosimane of Al Ahly, Tom Saintfiet of The Gambia, Florent Ibenge of RS Berkane, Vahid Halilhodzic of Morocco, Walid Regragui of Wydad Athletic Club, Aliou Cisse of Senegal, and Mandla Ncikazi for Orlando Pirates.
