Opinion: 4 Clubs That Could Be Considered As Favourites To Win The UCL This Season

SOURCE: MY OPINION

The 2021/2022 Champions League has just begun in the most fascinating manner, with so many teams labelled favorites to win the trophy failing to make a strong statement in their opening matches. Many great clubs were considered favorites to win the Champions League prior to the start of the season, but the results of the gameweek 1 matchups will push commentators to re-evaluate their previous predictions.

After a busy transfer window, Paris Saint-German was one of the top teams expected to win the UCL cup. The Ligue 1 gurus acquired the signature of Lionel Messi and other outstanding footballers with unrivaled Champions League expertise. Despite a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Bruges, PSG's maiden appearance in the 2021/2022 UCL season was a collosal failure. Aside from PSG, Manchester United was another top team that failed to win their first Champions League encounter.

Meanwhile, it's worth taking a deeper look at the top teams whose exceptional performances have sealed their Champions League status. Furthermore, with the exciting results of the gameweek 1 matches, it is now extremely easy to identify the favorites to win the continental crown at the end of the season.

1. Chelsea

Chelsea FC, the defending champions, are almost guaranteed to regain the Champions League championship. The London club began their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Russian heavyweights Zenith Saint-Petersburg at Stamford Bridge. Despite the fact that Chelsea were without a few first-team players, Thomas Tuchel's tactical mastery was enough to ensure Chelsea's perfect start to their Champions League championship defense. Furthermore, with the signing of Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea's attacking difficulties, which nearly derailed the club's chances of winning the Champions League the previous season, may be over.

2. Bayern München

Bayern Munich, a six-time Champions League victor, could be considered favorites to win the competition after a thrilling season opening against Spanish powerhouse Barcelona. The in-form Koeman's squad was defeated 3-0 by Julian Nagelsmann's side. The German giants have unquestionably the best team, with a unique mix of young and seasoned skills. Indeed, Bayern Munich's spectacular performance against Barcelona has cemented their status as Champions League favorites.

3. Manchester City

Manchester City is still one of the few great European clubs that has yet to win Europe's most coveted club football trophy. The English, on the other hand, appear to be driven and zealous to shift the narratives after pulling off an 8-goal thriller against Leipzig. Manchester City's 6-3 victory over RB Leipzig is convincing enough to establish the club's Champions League credentials.

4. Real Madrid

Real Madrid, a revitalized Spanish side, is one of our favorites to win the Champions League. In a closely contested match, the 13-time Champions League winners defeated Italian champions Inter Milan 1-0. This is undeniably evidence of Carlos Ancelotti's continuous shift at the Santiago Bernabeu. Since the advent of the Italian tactician, Real Madrid's conditions have steadily transformed, and the team now appears to be on track to compete for the Champions League crown. It would be premature to include them in our list of Champions League favorites.
