Opinion - Upcoming signings by Chiefs made obvious by this?

The excitement for Kaizer Chiefs supporters is seemingly set to continue after a club official suggested that they are not done making signings for the upcoming season.

Chiefs have already confirmed the signings of Yusuf Maart from Sekhukhune United, Swallows trio Kamohelo Mahlatsi, George Matlou and Dillan Solomons, Siyethemba Sithebe from AmaZulu and Stellenbosch duo Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika.

Amakhosi Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has vowed that the club will compete "fiercely" with their rivals for the upcoming campaign with the changes at various levels still ongoing and confirmed that there will be "new announcements".

"Our target is success, success at all levels and that’s very key, hence the work that you see being done at the technical level and the management level and at the brand level,” Motaung was quoted as saying by SowetanLive.

"So that’s certainly one of the things we are aiming for and to our competitors, we will compete fiercely with them. That's key.

"It is still the signing window, so when everything is done, we will let you know, but if there are certainly new announcements coming, it will be made to the public,” Motaung said.

There is a high possibility that Chiefs fans should anticipate a couple of foreign additions to the squad, judging by the recruitments so far.

All the aforementioned signings by the club are South African born players and after the club parted ways with foreign players, Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole and have transfer-listed Anthony Akumu.

That has created room for the Glamour Boys to bring in foreign acquisitions, particularly upfront, where they have only signed Du Preez so far.

Amakhosi have already been linked with Cameroonian striker Franck Mbella Etouga, 20, who plies his trade for Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.

However, Amakhosi could be forced to look elsewhere after Kotoko Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei warned interested clubs they won't be entertaining offers for Etouga, as they want to be competitive in the CAF Champions League in the upcoming season.

Another foreign striker linked with Chiefs is Tanzanian Premier League top-scorer Fiston Mayele of Young Africans. However, club CEO Senzo Mbatha also stated that the Democratic Republic of Congo striker is not for sale due to their ambitions in the CAF Champions League.

Motaung's statement has coincided with reports that the Glamour Boys have fast-tracked engagements with three attacking options.

Two of the unnamed targets have reportedly not played in the DStv Premiership and one of those is non-African.

Chiefs raised eyebrows after they signed the unknown Serbian striker Nurkovic ahead of the 2019/20 season and he proved to be shrewd signing, although he was unable to replicate the form he produced in his debut campaign.
