Date: Tuesday, 30 November
Soccer or football as the sport is known is arguably the most followed and celebrated sport in Africa and in the rest of the world, but in Africa soccer is much loved as it unites nations of different cultures and traditions to one place to enjoy the sporting event. Africa osa poor continent with not many opportunities and jobs, and soccer is one way for people to make a successful living.
Africans love local talent and support their own when it comes to sport. Unfortunately the soccer fraternity in Zimbabwe had to say their goodbyes to one of their local talented soccer star's, as they lost him to death as the aftermath of a stroke claimed his life. Triangle goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu died at a local hospital on Sunday evening following a stroke he suffered about a month ago.
The Zimbabwean soccer star died at the tender young age of 33. He played in the Chibuku Cup and served his team as goalkeeper and vice-captain until his life was cut short due to illness. "RIP Ronald Mudimu, our vice-captain, our goalkeeper, one of our senior players", read a statement from the club.
"With you we won a lot - NetOne One Wallet Cup, Chibuku Supercup. We played CAF Confederations Cup, we enjoyed the African Safari. Instead of celebrating our victory over Dynamos, we are now in tears".
"A dark cloud has covered the football family. It is with great sadness that we learn of the sad passing of Triangle FC goalkeeper, Ronald Mudimu. We convey our sincere sympathy to the family, FUZ Members, friends, and the nation at large. We hope that our words of solidarity will bring strength and peace to the Mudimu's in this time of bereavement.
The PSL also sends their condolences as they wrote, "Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Mudimu family and Triangle United FC family following the untimely passing of seasoned player Ronald Mudimu. We pray for comfort and strength during this difficult time".
Ronald Mudimu was a great player, it is just unfortunate and sad that he had to die at such a young age, but may his soul rest in peace as Zimbabweans and the rest of Africa mourn his death.
