Tovey: Kaizer Chiefs made the right decision

Kaizer Chiefs legend Neil Tovey has spoken out about the club's ongoing feud with the Premier Soccer League.

Following a spike in positive Covid-19 cases at their Naturena base, the Glamour Boys announced their intention to call off their 2021/22 season.

"Right now, we're in a crisis," Tovey told

"You know, people's health is considerably more essential. We're also working to eliminate this variant. They're attempting to do the right thing by informing the league that they have 31 positive cases, but it's quickly spreading.

"Yes, they may have to pay the price for not keeping the appointment, but what can you do? Do you take them to the stadium so they can meet new people?

"They don't even want to expand it further. In my opinion, they did the proper option in terms of health by announcing that they have 31 instances.

"They probably concluded that losing points is OK, but causing others to become ill is not.

"You want them to show up, and then they have to play Cape Town City, and they have 31 cases, and Cape Town City has to play the following week, so they change it to...No!

"They definitely didn't do it carelessly and gave it a lot of thought. The league has been advised of the situation."

The Chiefs will play Golden Arrows in an away league match at the Princess Magogo Stadium next.
