Unexpected: Benni McCarthy to coach Bafana?

Surprise: Benni McCarthy has been named as Bafana Bafana's new coach?

A former South African national team player, Benni McCarthy, has become one of the world's most renowned South African sports stars thanks to his ascent to prominence.

As one of the world's fiercest strikers, McCarthy won the 2006 Champions League under one of the greatest coaches of all time, Jose Mourinho.

In the last five seasons, he has managed to coach Cape Town City Football Club and Amazulu Football Club, and he has also brought success to the two clubs, which are now among the strongest in South Africa.

Orlando Pirates Football Club and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club have both been connected with the 44-year-old after he was fired from Usuthu earlier this season following a disagreement with the club's management and players.

As many believe that Hugo Broos, the Belgian coach now in charge of the South African national team, is not the proper person to lead the squad, McCarthy has been tipped to seize the reins as the country's head coach.

McCarthy taking over now would be a mistake in my opinion, since Broos is assembling a South African team that many would be pleased with and that will be competitive in the near future.

McCarthy, in my opinion, is not the best choice to manage the United States men's national team and should gain more coaching experience first.

Benni McCarthy should take over as Bafana Bafana's coach, according to a post on
